Shelf Product Update — November 2017
This past month, two new major feature-upgrades made it to your Shelf that help you curate and explore your organization’s most important knowledge on Shelf.
We’ve introduced our brand new Wiki Pages which enable you to create rich content directly on Shelf. Also, you will now see recommended content whenever you open a Gem, encouraging your members to explore related content from your own internal knowledge base. Please read on to learn more about these exciting additions.
Wiki Page
Your organization can now create rich content directly on Shelf to complement files, links, contacts, and other information that you’ve already curated on your Shelf. With our brand new Wiki Pages, you’ll be able to collaborate on documents directly within the software itself.
In order to create new Wiki Pages, use the Touchpad which is accessible from the ADD button. Alternatively, you can use the Shelf Collaborative Web Clipper to create a Wiki Page and edit it later in the Shelf portal.
Recommended Content
An effective knowledge portal is all about curating great content and allowing its users to quickly find the content they need. But what about the valuable content you’ve amassed that not everyone is aware of?
A great repository of knowledge not only supports direct search but also assists users in exploring its content. With Shelf, we’re addressing this need in various ways, such as the ability to add Badges and tags to each piece of content. Recently, we built a smart algorithm that adds recommended content to each Gem. Now, when you access a piece of information, Shelf will suggest related content that may be of interest to you, allowing you to explore your organization’s knowledge more easily.
Updates to the Collaborative Web Clipper
During November, we released further updates to our Web Clipper for Chrome and Firefox.
The changes included support for Wiki Pages, meaning you can start creating rich content for your Shelf directly from the browser extension without the need to open the Shelf portal. Apart from the Wiki Page and several bug fixes, we’ve also further improved the support for clipping LinkedIn profiles and improved general usability and performance.
As always, the latest versions can be installed from the Chrome Store and as an Add-On for Firefox.
Other Changes
In addition to the major changes described above, many smaller improvements have made their way to your Shelf.
To mention a few of those, there are various enhancements to the Home Dashboard such as the Favorites section now being sorted by the Gems most recently favorited. On the Hatrack, we combined the option “More Tags” into the Tag Library. The Tag Library lets you filter by comfortably selecting multiple tags to refine your search. You’ll also notice a heightened overall performance as we’ve released our new improved CDN (Content Delivery Network) that serves the Shelf web application from a server location as close as possible to your own location to reduce network latency.
