Distributions in the Philippines following Tropical Storm Kai-tak, Jan 2018

2017 was an incredible year at ShelterBox. With the generosity of our donors in Canada, and around the world, we were able to reach 160,000 people and provide vital aid to 21 countries. You can take a look at our full year in review numbers on our website.

With ongoing responses in the Caribbean, Bangladesh, the Syrian region, Iraq, and the Lake Chad Basin we left 2017 closely monitoring tropical storms Kai-tak and Tembin in the Philippines.

A ShelterBox Response Team is currently on the ground carrying out needs assessments and initial distributions. We will be distributing a variety of aid items such as ShelterBox, Shelter Kits, water carriers and solar lights to support those families that need our help the most.

With the help of the Rotary Club of Biliran Island and other Rotarians in the Philippines, we have distributed shelter materials to 229 families. You can see an update on our distributions on the ground on our Facebook page.

Along with the Philippines, a ShelterBox Response Team is deploying to Madagascar to start assessments on the ground following Tropical Storm Ava. New numbers have come in which indicate the number of people affected are substantially higher.

ShelterBox Operations is also monitoring Cyclone Joyce as it made landfall in Western Australia and continues to move down the coast.

Disasters don’t stop, and neither do we. Our work would be impossible without the support of our donors — thank you!
