Early life and military service

Doctor John Watson, the companion and chronicler of Sherlock Holmes, was born in 1852 and spent much of his childhood in Birmingham, England. Little is known about his early years, but it is believed that he received a solid education, including training in medicine and military science.

After completing his education, Watson joined the British Army and served as a surgeon in the Second Anglo-Afghan War. He was wounded in the conflict and eventually returned to England, where he began practicing medicine. It was during this time that he first met Sherlock Holmes and became his companion and collaborator on many of his famous cases.

He meets Sherlock Holmes through a mutual friend and the two become roommates at 221B Baker Street. At the time of their meeting, Watson is in search of a new career, and he is soon drawn into Holmes’ world of crime-solving.
