Since I am not really the kind who easily gives up, I decided I want to see if I can have a chocolate treat in this Keto Diet.

So, I went to the supermarket and tried to buy all the ingredients found in this recipe — Keto Chocolate Cake in a Mug.

It has the following ingredients:

1 large egg — OK
2 tablespoons salted butter — OK
2 tablespoons almond flour — OK
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder — OK. I had it from yesterday.
1 ½ tablespoons erythritol — I got instead Stevia. As per this blog post, Stevia is the best sweetener for a Keto diet.
2 teaspoons coconut flour — Wait I have to buy coconut flour also? I am too cheap to buy both Almond and Coconut flour in one go. I will use almond flour instead.
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract — I tried looking for a natural one and couldn’t. They all contain carbs and sugar. I am not sure how is this ingredient part of a Keto diet. I improvised and got Moroccan Almond extract instead. It wasn’t a good choice, more on that later.
½ teaspoon baking powder — OK

Trial 1

I have had a long day. Now, it’s time for a treat. I followed the recipe with the alterations I mentioned above.

What was the result?

I was actually able to make the Chocolate cake in a Mug in 5 minutes!

It looked puffy and all. It looked so damn delicious.

Ok. I am so proud of myself. Let me try it now.

It tastes so weird and bitter. Maybe, it’s because I replaced the vanilla extract with the almond extract?

Ok. Wait. Let me try another one.

Trial 2.

I prepared it even faster this time. This time, however, I did not add the almond extract. I didn’t add the vanilla extract either.

Let me try it.

What was the result?

It also looks puffy and delicious.

It tastes less weird.

It’s eatable.

Ok. I think I need to try it with a vanilla extract to actually enjoy it.

What is stopping me from getting that vanilla extract?

I am in my trial period and in the early days I cheated by eating an apple.

It turns out, this is really bad news. Really, really bad news.

If the body gets any kind of carbs, the body doesn’t get into the ketosis metabolic state, and when that doesn’t happen, you know what happens? You get fat from all the fat you are eating!

Ketosis metabolic state basically helps the body use the fat for energy instead of carbs. That’s how you lose weight! But, if you actually give it (your body) carbs, you kick it out of this state, and hence, you keep the fat in your body, and well, remain at the same weight, or worse gain weight.

So, basically, if you want to be in Keto Diet, you have to be all in.

Go big or go home.

And now that I understand the repercussions of my actions, I think I will put this diet on pause until I am back from vacation.

On a totally unrelated note, did you know that if you took so much antibiotics you can feel super bloated? Your stomach can be 5X bigger than its usual state. It turns out, you do get bloated sometimes, and that’s what actually happened to me. Be careful when that doctor prescribes antibiotics for you and make sure to take probiotics to adverse the reaction (ask your Doctor. I am no Doctor here). You don’t want to end-up like a balloon like me right now.
