From learning English, to designing software: Katheryn’s story
After immigrating with her family to the US, Katheryn Martinez had a tough first day of middle school. Unable to find the right classroom, Katheryn realized that she needed to learn English, and she need to learn it fast, in order to succeed. After a year of hard work, she graduated out of her ESL class and started attending regular classes. Now a student at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, she remembers her struggles and would like to help others in similar situations. She is studying computer science and her goal is to create software programs that assist English language learners and others who are learning a new language.
