The Rotondo update arrives exactly at the 1 year anniversary of the BitBox02, which was launched last September after an extensive beta testing program that provided valuable feedback.

The BitBox02 has proven to be an attractive choice for beginners as well as advanced users. We continue to build on top of its strong foundation.

This update is named after the Rotondohütte in the Swiss Gotthard massif. The hut is located at 2570 meters a.s.l, next to the Wittenwasseren glacier and its ice-cold lakes. A sight to behold.

New feature: Custom transaction fees

The next bull run will come someday, and with it, some crazy Bitcoin fee spikes. Unfortunately, it’s very hard to reliably estimate fees automatically, and the recommended fees sometimes are not exactly to your liking.

In that situation it’s important to be able to manually fine-tune your transaction fees. We feel we put off this advanced feature long enough, but it’s finally here! Props to our BitBox family on Telegram for nagging us constantly.

In order to keep the standard interface as simple as possible, we made this an advanced feature. You can switch on “Enable custom fees” in the “Expert settings” section.

“Enable custom fees” in the BitBoxApp settings

When sending Bitcoin, simply select “Custom” in the “Priority” dropdown field. This allows you to enter the desired network fee in satoshis per virtual byte (sats/vB).

When sending, choose “Custom” to set your own network fee

Good reference sites for current Bitcoin fee estimates are Bitcoinfees or the legendary Johoe’s Bitcoin Mempool Statistics. A thorough explanation on Bitcoin transaction fees in general can be found in the Bitcoin Wiki.
