Kabaad se Jugaad Meet!!! We organized the “JUGAAD MEET 2018” from 26th to 29th December for children and Youth age of 14–25 years with the collaboration of EcoHut and Karmmarg. 40 students attended the workshop. Being a residential workshop, the children got to be in an environment that emphasized the idea of looking for the best in every person and everything. Vijay Ansh, Azad and Ishant say that it was a really fun experience and they got to learn a lot from it. Across the four days, the space in which we gathered brimmed of energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Our days started early in the morning and often did continue till late at night, giving our alternative learners ample of opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and interact with everyone around and learn from the more experienced designers and workshop team. We explored design thinking and how to use a broad variety of materials, and everyone was able to produce some gifts for society from what is usually considered as useless waste. This was an awesome feeling and great learning experience for everyone which proved once more that everyone and anyone, everything and anything has its own intrinsic value which is often overlooked by society but can be re-discovered in the right space and environment. Students worked on basic skills of stitching, pasting and weaving and made Diary from waste papers, paper bags. We watched the Story of Stuff and had discussions around our waste, with young participants from different organizations being able to put their creative hats on. It was a great opportunity to explore, learn and share ideas about building a zero waste world!

Community Media Lab

At the beginning of this month the schedule of adda went on with the usual timings, but soon with the onset of winter vacations, children came to adda for almost five hours a day from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This provided them sufficient time to learn up the things and work on new projects. In the beginning of the month, Chirag 9th and Ayan 7th worked on making the Business Visiting Cards and made some wonderful cards for various local publishers.

In the photography workshop, new students learned and used DSLR camera and setting of exposures while clicking. Also, after the mid-December kids made a visit to Coronation Park for the practice of outdoor photography and took beautiful pictures which have been displayed in their space as well as during various events.

Design Studio and Maker Space

With their skills, they then made a Bluetooth controlled light. The children also made a showpiece water fountain with materials they collected from the scrap yard.

The month began with a theme of Chinese-inspired cuisine. Together with their new facilitator, the junior chefs created flavourful fusion dishes such as chili potato and Manchurian. Naveen,8th class one of the junior chefs who participated in the workshop, said that he is glad to have gotten this professional, hands-on experience in order to better understand the catering business as he himself would like to become a food entrepreneur in the future. This month was all about improving skating techniques and stunts. Anand, 7th class and Almomin 7th class have moved from the beginner to medium level, becoming more and more confident in their skating. Aman, Nikhil 8th class and Rahul 8th Class are now able to skate even outside the Adda on the stairs and the concrete floor. They have also achieved feats in ramp stunting and racing practice. With great dedication, all of the kids are honing their skills and even started to play frisbee while skating — maybe the start of a new exciting sport? Aman, Nikhil and Rahul also immensely enjoy playing table tennis. Rahul recalls the day he had first come to Adda and was impressed by the advanced skating and table tennis skills of the other alternative learners. Looking back, he says that he never would have thought of reaching such a high level in both sports, and he is glad that he had the encouragement and support from the other Adda kids and the adda facilitators to be at his best.
