If two industries are identical, it’s SPORTS and BUSINESS.

“Continuous effort — not strength or intelligence — is the key to unlocking our potential.”– Liane Cardes

If you’re vaguely familiar also with how sports teams operate, you will know that the following holds true.

  • Every team member has a role that is their primary concern.
  • You’re only held accountable for your performance.
  • You’re trained to have the agility to switch up your play as the game changes.
  • Competitor analysis is a vital part of your training.
  • You never lose sight of your driving force.

It’s incredible how much these principles hold true to any Business.

Aristotle once said: ‘Excellence is not a singular act. It’s a habit. You are what you repeatedly do.’
Tony La Russa — Competing is a privilege. Make the most of the opportunity by pushing yourself to the limit of your abilities.

The bottom line is, you need to put your team in ‘a position’ to succeed.

Here’s how these strategies translate to Team Building.

  • Train your team to do their jobs well. No matter how competent a person you hire, training should be continuous.
  • Everyone should be hyper-focused on their particular roles. Team rapport is important, but it won’t come together if people can’t perform on an individual level.
  • Ensure that your team has the skills and flexibility to deal with the ever-changing landscape of business.
  • Don’t lose sight of the competition.
  • Listen to your team to know what their driving forces are. This way, you know what buttons to push to get the best performance out of each person.
