In an effort to help your organizations grow while using Shipyard, we’re excited to be launching two new features this week. You can now manage users in your organization by inviting and deleting them, while also controlling their level of access on the Permissions page!

User Management

As your team evolves, you need the flexibility to add new members and remove old ones. We’ve now made it easy to invite your co-workers and external partners to work alongside you within the Shipyard platform.

If you’re already an admin and look on the sidebar, you’ll now see the Users page. This will show you all of the users that currently exist in your organization.

Inviting Users

At the top of the User Management page, you’ll now see a button to Invite Users. This will send users an email that directs them to set up their account details and sign in. You can initially invite someone as the role of:

  • AdminCreate, View, Edit, and Delete access for every element within your organization, as soon as they log in.
  • UserView access to all elements, Create access for Projects and Logs.

Deleting Users

We know that teams can ebb and flow. If someone is no longer a part of your team, you can easily remove their access to your organization.

User Permissions

Admins of an organization, rejoice! You now have the ability to gain fine-tuned control over the level of access that every user has. All you have to do is click “Manage” next to any user’s name.

We designed our permissions system to work like a matrix grid of “Permissions x Elements”. This structure empowers you to be flexible and explicit about what users are accessing.

Permissions come in four different flavors:

  • Create — Ability to make new elements or duplicate existing ones.
  • View — Ability to see and interact with an element.
  • Edit — Ability to make changes to an existing element.
  • Delete — Ability to remove the element permanently.

Elements are broken down into four sections of the application:

  • Projects
  • Blueprints
  • Logs
  • Users

Once a user’s permissions are set, you can give them access to specific Projects that exist in the organization, opening up a world of Vessels and Fleets for them to use.

For more information about these updates, check out our in-depth documentation. We’re excited to see how these updates make it easier than ever for your entire team to get up and running with Shipyard!
