Create vs Consume

I’ve lately been exposed to the power of creation.

As a consumer of content, and anything really, you are a bystander. You are someone who watches, participates, or even forms valuable opinions about a given topic. Unfortunately though, by not acting, you are a bystander.

Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge consumer. I consume so much content, that it would probably make your head spin. Recently though, I’ve been exposed to the power of consistent creation, and what it can do for you.

Creating is an iterative process that exponentially grows an audience that trusts you. By consistently creating, whether it be content, artwork, or products, you are exposing yourself to a whole world full of potential. Potential that may have been squandered by the consumer version of yourself is now within full reach of the new you.

I’ve seen it and you’ve seen it, whether you’ve realized it or not. Think about all of the gamers, beauty instructors, and other youtube vloggers. They’ve all created videos for years before their hard work paid off, but when it did, they went “zero to a hundred real quick”.

Most people that have the drive to create and don’t, are often discouraged by not putting out something that’s perfect. I totally know the feeling. The problem is, if you don’t ship it, you’ll never ship anything. You’ll keep waiting for that perfect execution, when in reality, good things almost always come in the form of an iterative process. Let your audience guide your way to success.

The most important thing for you to do right now, is to stop reading this bullshit article, and go make something amazing.

Seriously, unless you’re writing, get the f*ck off of Medium.

( That goes for you too, Hacker News. )
