Starbucks by the Season…
Starbucks has long been a go-to coffee stop for many in search of a caffeine fix, but the popular coffee chain’s regulars know that there are certain times of the year to allow for a little extra time when stopping in for your morning coffee — cooler temperatures mean longer wait times.
But I’ve been left wondering, “Do coffee sales really increase around the holidays?”
Let’s start at the beginning. That’s right coffee lovers, pumpkin spice season.
Pumpkin Spice by the Numbers
The Pumpkin Spice Latte has become a huge part of pop culture over the years, and as Starbuck’s most popular seasonal drink, it’s for good reason. According to Sense360, the return of the PSL was so well-received that it actually boosted the company’s share of national GSR market from 6.7% in August of 2016 to 6.96% in a single month.
“I can confirm that our PSL is our most popular seasonal drink we’ve offered with over 350 million cups sold in the U.S. since its debut in 2003.” — Maggie Jantzen, Spokesperson for Starbucks
The coffee giant has an impressive and increasingly faithful following of specific Starbucks seasonal favorites, and the numbers certainly show that sales increase due to the release of holiday favorites. This spike continues throughout the last three months of the quarter, when other holiday favorites come about.
With the success of the PSL latte, other companies have tried to jump on board and create renditions of their own, but none have been able to reach the same success Starbucks has been working towards for over a decade.
