Where It All Began

The Arizona Republic building in downtown Phoenix

The Arizona Republic was founded in the late 1800’s and was known as The Arizona Republican. In 1912, the paper was ran by a man named Dwight B. Heard. Heard was a land owner as well as a “cattle baron.” Along with the Arizona Republican, Dwight was the president of the Arizona Cotton Association. In 1930, the Arizona Republican changed its name to The Arizona Republic. The Republic not only publishes a print edition, but also has an online paper known as, azcentral.com. On their website, you can find the news you are looking for. Whether that is sports, business, travel or even politics.

The Republic’s building is centrally located in Downtown Phoenix off of East Van Buren street. The building can be seen from all over phoenix as well as when you are landing at Sky Harbor International Airport (depending on where you are flying in from). According to agilitypr.com, The Arizona Republic is the top media outlet in Arizona. Putting them above the Arizona Daily Star, the East Valley tribune and the Yuma Sun. Since the Republic has been around for so long, and is known by almost anyone who lives in Arizona, it only makes sense they are listed as number one.

The daily paper can be picked up at a local Starbucks or you can also have the paper delivered to your home Monday-Sunday for $23.99 per two months. You may also receive a digital subscription for $4.99 per month. If it were me buying a subscription, I would subscribe to a paper copy. I like the feeling of having a newspaper, but I also understand that most people would want to read the news on the go and on their phone.

For sports fans, the Republic has an entire page that is dedicated to sports. They have individual tabs for teams including, but not limited to, the Coyotes, Cardinals, ASU and even high school sports. Within the tabs you will find not only game stories, but also feature stories on players and the teams themselves. This is personally my favorite page. I can view it from my cell phone and get the latest update on the Arizona sports teams without having to do much research.
