Ways to Improve Mobile Conversion Rate: AMP, A/B Testing, Design Sprint And More You Need To Know!

Wish to increase your conversion rate on mobile devices but unsure of what to do? Recently, Shopee was invited by Google to join a Design Sprint Workshop.

The workshop was designed to tackle any challenges from Payment to Login to landing pages. The team at Google created AMP for us to work on during the day.

The 4 main topics of the day were:

  • Next Billion Users
  • Google AMP
  • AB Test
  • Design Sprint

AB Test: To Improve Conversion Rate Continuously (Google Optimize)

For Google Analytic premium users, there’s an AB testing tool called Google Optimize. It has the website testing and personalization features you need to create online experiences that engage and delight your customers.

Experiment types include:

  • A/B or A/B/n Tests
  • Multivariate Tests
  • Redirect Tests

A/B tests, also known as A/B/n tests, allows you to test multiple versions of the same web page and find the one that works best for your users. In A/B/n testing, Variant A is the original and Variants B through n each contain at least one element that is different from the original. For example, Variant A may have a blue purchase button and Variant B may have a red purchase button. The results of this experiment will tell you which variant has performed the best.

AMP: To Improve Your Loading Speed on Mobile Devices

The AMP project is an open-source initiative aiming to make the web better for all. The project enables the creation of websites and ads that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across devices and distribution platforms.

Before the workshop, the Googlers made a demo page for Shopee product detail page to enable us to feel how fast it is in comparison to the current page. Especially in countries with less than optimal internet speeds.

To Increase Mobile Efficiency — Next Billion Users

It is a great move by Google to target Indonesia, India and other countries with some of the fastest growing internet markets in the world. They built many Apps and infrastructure for them, like Files Go, Google Station, YouTube Go. These are not just light version apps, but they also contribute to mobile efficiency.

Design Sprint: Optimise Your Product And Get Feedback Quickly

A team of 4 cross-functional people from Shopee (PM, frontend Design and Dev, and SEM manager) chose a key conversion path prior to the Design Sprint. A Google mobile expert then hosted a pre-call with our team to discuss our project and answer questions.

There are 5 company group join this workshop (Shopee, Lazada, Carosell ..etc)

The sprint was a five-day process that provided a framework to answer critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas with users.

Working together in a sprint, we were able to cut short on the endless debate cycle and reduce months of time into a single week. Instead of waiting to launch a minimal product to understand if an idea is any good, we obtained clear data from a realistic prototype.
