Meet the founders of the best sock store on the internet — John’s Crazy Socks
A while back, we asked members of our forum to do a quick intro so that we could get to know each other.
It was #wholesome ;)
One of my personal highlights was learning about a store called John’s Crazy Socks!
John’s Crazy Socks is run by a father-son team — Mark and his son John — a young man with Down syndrome.
Mark and John were looking for a way for John to make a living after high school. After giving a few different business ideas a go, John came up with the idea of selling socks — which by the way are ~ridiculously~ adorable and I am seriously considering buying at least 100 of them.
The idea came from his own life — John has always loved wearing colorful socks because, according to John they, “let me be me.”
When they first got started, they had an inventory of just over 30 socks, but they scaled quickly and broke 6 figures in their first year!
What’s even cooler is that they give back to important causes. In fact, 5% of their profits are donated to the Special Olympics AND they have dedicated charity socks with the profits going directly to organizations such as Autism Speaks, and the National Down Syndrome Society!
They also hire workers on the autism spectrum (who can sometimes face biases in the job market.)
“The more we can do for other people, the better off we are,” said Mark.
Anyone who visits their homepage will read “We’re on a mission to spread happiness through socks!” and as far as I’m considered, they’re achieving that!
Mark and John are seasoned users of HeyCarson (our sister company) and have posted a couple jobs on Storetasker as well.
What do you think about this idea? Are you going to get some socks?
