Lists are great. Without them, I’d be lost.

The average person can keep between five and nine items in their head without difficulty.

I can only manage three.

If I go shopping without a list, every item after the third will remain on the shelf, and I’ll only realise as my wife laughs at me when I return home.

That’s why I built an app to make my life easier.

Since its release four years ago, Shopping UK has helped over 75,000 people with their weekly supermarket shop. And I’m now pleased to announce a new feature to make life a tiny bit easier: shared lists.

Lists are great, but shared lists are awesome!

Items added to one list will immediately appear on the other devices

I share my list with my wife. Currently, she does most of the shopping. Whenever I think of something we need — say, I’ve used the last of the milk or finished the toothpaste — I add it to our shared list. Then, like magic, new supplies appear in our cupboards!

Sometimes, when I’m in the supermarket looking at my list, a notification will appear at the top showing items for me to buy.

A new item notifications will appear when you’re shopping

The sharing feature is free to use and super simple to setup. No registration is required — you don’t have to enter your email, phone number or setup an account. Just press the Share button, enter your first name or nickname (so other list members know who is adding items), then send an invite to your family or friends. That’s it!

Up to five people can share a list. Any items other members add appear in a subtly different colour on the main list.

If you’re shopping and someone else adds an item, you’ll see a notification. When you click on it, the item will be added to your list and automatically categorised.

When someone else buys an item, it will be crossed-off your list automatically.

Likewise, if you add or delete an item, or cross one off your list, the change will immediately appear on the other member’s lists.

This happens fast.

In fact, this happens so fast that you and your friends can save time when shopping for a BBQ or holiday: split-up in the supermarket and fetch different items on the list. You’ll see immediately what your friends have put in their basket so you won’t accidentally double-up and fetch the same thing.

The new version of Shopping UK is available now, and it’s completely free.
