3 DIY Projects You Can Do With Mason Jars
Mason jars are pretty much everywhere these days. You can get them anywhere, and you can do anything with them. Play around with your Mason jars by experimenting with some fun DIY projects that will totally change the way you look at these ubiquitous home items.
Adorable Tissue Holder
Ditch the cardboard box, and make an adorable tissue holder out of a wide-mouth Mason jar. Take the lid off, and separate the lid insert from the lid liner. Trace the circular lid insert on a piece of scrapbook paper and set it aside as you cut out the circle you just traced. Cut a long slit in the center of the paper circle, and place the scrapbook paper lid insert back inside the liner.
Take a stack of tissues out of a tissue box, fold them in half, shove them down into the jar and put the lid on top. Pull the first tissue through the top of the lid, and you’re ready to go.
Glass Lantern
This DIY is so simple, you won’t believe you haven’t done it already. Start with a nice clean Mason jar of any size. Toss a tealight candle inside. Ordinary tealights will do, but you can also use flameless tealights if you prefer. Take the lid insert off the rim and toss it. Light your candle (or turn it on), and enjoy! Want to take this up a notch? Drill a small hole on either side of the lid rim, near the very top. Take a strong piece of twine (or better yet, wire) and thread it through the holes. Tie it together at the top, and hang your lantern.
Mini Terrarium
Honor nature with this easy DIY project. Use small pebbles to fill a Mason jar up one-fourth of the way. Cover this with a layer of potting soil (or sand if you want a beachy terrarium). Drop a small stone or shell on top, and add some evergreen sprigs or seaweed. You’ll have to replace your greenery every so often because it will turn brown, so have fun using different plants like herbs or small wildflowers.
