June is National Healthy Homes Month. Avoid common illness and injury by taking these three easy steps towards making your home a safer and healthier place.

Breathe Easy

Airborne allergens are a major contributing factor to common illnesses and can even lead to chronic health conditions like asthma. Breathe a little easier by making sure your home is well ventilated: Opening your windows, turning on some fans and equipping your rooms with well-maintained air filters and humidifiers are all ways to clear the air.

Clean Sweep

Not only can clutter create dangerous obstacles in hallways and on stairs, it can also provide a place for pests, like allergy-provoking dust mites, to hide away. Take some time this week to organize your clutter and vacuum or wipe down surfaces underneath.

Know the Drill

Little ones should always be ready to respond to an emergency, so go over your home’s security and fire preparedness systems with everyone in your household. Anyone old enough to reach the doorknob should know how to lock and unlock the door and call 911 to report an emergency.
