Fall and winter are a wonderful time to do some cheap redecorating with what Mother Nature provides. Take advantage of nature’s bounty by filling a few bowls, bottles, wreaths or plates with our favorite flourishes of home planet-grown decor.

Pinecones

Pinecones have long symbolized fertility and renewal and have been prized for centuries for their eye-catching shape and decorative function. Best of all, they’re free. Pick up a few fallen pinecones from your local park and stick them in a bowl or tie them into a bouquet or a wreath for a warm, woodsy accent piece straight from the Earth itself.

(Abandoned or Structurally Damaging) Birds’ Nests

Okay, obviously don’t go plucking birds’ nests from out of trees in order to satisfy your burning desire to turn your home into a shabby chic oasis. But if you’ve got an abandoned nest clogging your chimney or causing interference with your satellite dish, repurpose that sucker into a found objet d’art to feature in your centerpiece or wreath. (Just make sure to clean it of feathers and bird poop first.)

Crystals

Whether you believe in the metaphysical properties of crystals or not, there’s no denying that a strategically placed quartz can give a room some sparkle. Grab yourself a few chunky crystal points or polished stones to energize the corners of your home with spiritual sophistication.

Dried Branches

A fresh-cut flower arrangement is lovely, but high maintenance. Skip the short shelf life and treat yourself to a bouquet that requires no pruning or watering by foraging for a few leafy twigs in your local park. Hang them in a windowsill until fully dry, and then bunch them together and stick them in an empty vase for a classy fall centerpiece or mantle display that honors the season.
