Giving your window the personal touch can be an expensive process if you don’t favor pre-installed condo blinds. Check out our four favorite ways to brighten up your windows on a budget.

Found Object Curtain Rod

Look no further than your own backyard for a hipster-approved curtain rod that won’t cost a dime. If you have curtain rod settings already in place, a long stick that fits the setting provides a rustic base for eyelet or tab-top curtains.

Unstructured Drapes

Have a length of raw fabric lying around and don’t know what to do with it? Leave it as is and wind it around your curtain rod, leaving it to drape loose and hang free at the end. Although it’s not a practical long-term solution for keeping out light (or neighborly views), a draped fabric is a great way to add drama to your decor in a pinch.

Flower Boxes

Oh hell, even just a potted plant in the windowsill. Not only does a small potted plant or a box of flowers or herbs brighten up a room, it’s also obviously an ideal spot to keep your greenery growing strong.

Tinted Window Film

Get the look of stained glass without the price tag by applying removable tinted window film on a few odd panes around your home. A simple shortcut to change the look and lighting of a room, a colorful filtered film adds personality and depth to any color scheme.
