The time of holiday treats is upon us — are you ready to bring your A-game to the dessert table? Our recommended bits of kitchen kit go above and beyond the rolling pin and cookie cutters to help you get your gingerbread game on point.

Plastic Wrap

Most gingerbread recipes call for the dough to rest in the refrigerator for anywhere from four hours to overnight. Keep moisture in (and your future cookies clean) by wrapping up that baby dough ball up with some swaddling plastic wrap.

Wax Paper (or Baking Paper)

A flat cookie leaves little room for error when detaching it from the surface of the pan. Skip the messy scraping entirely by setting your cookies on baking paper, which makes removal — and clean-up — a breeze.

Cooling Rack

A cooling rack lets air circulate around your cookies as they cool, allowing a crisp finish without the soggy undercarriage. If you don’t have a cooling rack, a roasting rack will do in a pinch — just be sure to scrape any bits off before laying down your hard-made gingerpeople.

Piping Bags (with Nozzles)

You’ve got your cookies and your icing — now it’s time to put ’em together. A variety of piping bags and nozzles will give you the leeway to get creative with thin lines, icing flowers and all sorts of designs that you can make when you have the tools to put the icing exactly where you want it.
