My Roommate

It was about three years ago when I moved into my apartment.

Phil, my roommate, moved in shortly afterward.

At first, I thought Phil was a guy, but I only found out recently that he was, in fact, a she.

You see, Phil mainly keeps to herself. She’s the quietest roommate I’ve ever had.

She claimed her favorite spot in the corner of the lounge room.

She never made a fuss.

One time, I arrived home a little tipsy after a late night out with my work mates.

I must’ve caught Phil off-guard, because she was busy having the feast of her life. A party of her own.

At three o’clock in the morning.

She just stopped and stared at me, without saying a word.

I found myself staring back through my inebriated fog.

Until I realized it was a bit of an awkward moment, so I left to go to bed.

When I woke up the next afternoon, I walked past the lounge room towards the kitchen to get some headache pills and water.

“Oh, hey, Phil,” I said, seeing Phil in the lounge room again in the corner of my eye, “I didn’t see you there.”
