As the finale of my blog posts, I would like to remind everyone that no matter how much you learn and grow throughout your progress, it is essential that you don’t lose yourself through the process. Yes, it is good that when you are adaptable, you are more opening to different opinions and perspectives and heck, your coworkers or colleagues might even like you more as you agree to their opinions. But, you must remember that in the end, you are absolutely entitled to your own opinions.

Spend Time Thinking Who You Are

It is easy to get influenced by all of these ideas around you as you begin to adapt to all of the situations around you. To keep yourself from swaying away from what you value, take some time out of your day to think or write about why you are doing what you are doing.

Constantly Remind Yourself of Your Motivation and Passion

Some tips to remind yourself of your goals is simply having them everywhere.

  1. Create a customized background for your phone screensaver or laptop wallpaper with what you are trying to accomplish.
  2. Write everything you are trying to achieve that week onto index cards and place them around your bedroom or dorm.
  3. Reward yourself after you have completed your goals even though it may even be a small trivial task.
  4. Explore your surroundings and read motivational books, poems, or any piece of writing to continue the spark of inspiration.

Reflect On Your Actions

Lets say that you have learned how to adapt to different situations. Now it is time to ask yourself these questions:

  • How did I improve from this?
  • What did I learn from this?
  • Do I feel more motivated to continue or am I discouraged?
  • Was my opinion the optimal solution or did I realize that it was flawed?
  • Am I being true to myself?

All of the above came directly from my personal experiences in the constant progress of trying to better myself. There were many moments where I almost believed that in order for myself to adapt myself for the better, I had to change myself based on what everyone else told me. Although it took me a while to gather all of my thoughts and find myself again, it feels good when you realize that you are no longer doing things for the sake of others but yourself.
