On The SoundCloud Charts [7–2–2017]

[Our weekly snapshot of SoundCloud’s Top 50 songs]

[Vacation Update] — I’m on a little vacation and that’ll fuck up some of the normal posting schedule, so hopefully things will be fully normal next week, even though I’m still gonna aim for normal posts this week. The result may be a little less commentary, so just thanks for dealing with this hiccup.

[The #1 Spot] — The top song this week is again “XO Tour Llif3” and one might wonder what else is there to say about this song. Well for me not much. Instead I’m gonna focus on the dip in overall views for the song. Now since I don’t have data before I started this list I’m going to list the listens stats for the last month of this song: 6/2 (3.68 million) 6/9 (3.58 million) 6/16 (3.23 million), 6/23 (2.92 million), and this week 2.6 million plays. That’s a fairly steady decline, which is also seen in the overall plays in the chart if one was to sum up the Top 50 there’d be a similar decrease. Honestly I don’t think it speak of any health concerns of SoundCloud, except that “XO Tour Llif3” when it was peaking at 6 million plus listens in a week was a high, high peak.

[Lil Pump Lil Pump] — Lil Pump’s “Molly” jumped to #2 this week and along with “Boss” (#6), “D Rose” (#18), and “Flex Like Ouu” (#22) it feels increasingly safe to safe we’re all just living in Lil Pump’s world at this point. My only question is wonder who exactly from Tha Lights Global, who is doing distro for Lil Pump’s music, is gonna appear on his mixtape. Maybe Loren Gray!

[Never Forget] —This week in ~never forget~ I wanna mention Future’s “Mask Off,” which was uploaded by DJ BoneCrusha got pulled down after sitting at #25 last week on the chart. Not a surprise, but really, considering their account only uploads other artists’ songs I’m surprised the entire account wasn’t just pulled and taken down. And now that I say that, I’m gonna be on the look out for whenever this account is eventually pulled down.

[I Got Four Versions] — In lighter news there are FOUR versions of “Descapito” on the chart this week! The Original (#28), the Danny Yankee remix (#21), the Justin Bieber remix (#44), and a remix of the Justin Bieber redux by VMK andThatBehavior (#50). Before I started doing this blog I always said how I loved the SoundCloud chart for this exact reason of there being no filter to prevent multiple versions of the same song appearing on the chart, but four versions of one song is a first for me. Congrats to Fonsi, even if only one is actually helping his pockets, because three of the four are unofficial fan uploads.

[Closing Note] — XXXTentacion and Ski Mask The Slump God put out a lot of new songs this week, which is why 20% of the chart is just them. I’m sure that’ll taper off soon, but just when I was about to start wondering if their buzz was slightly cooling that happens.
