2019–06–17: Trout on the Hill.
Week ahead for TU priorities in D.C.
The Big Picture:
- Appropriations process in full swing
- August recess — will they? wont they?
Priorities this week:
Appropriations:
The key bills of interest to TU are (1) Energy and Water; (2) Agriculture and related; (3) Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS); (4) Interior, Environment and Related (IER). For a refresher on the appropriations process, check out our appropriations “troutsplaining” post here on ShoutForTrout.
The House is moving forward with several bills combined in two processes or “mini-buses.”
Minibus #1, H.R. 2740, which contains appropriations for Energy and Water, is moving to the floor this week, with votes as early as Thursday.
- PEBBLE AMENDMENT: TU is backing an amendment to the Energy and Water bill that would prohibit use of funds to continue investing in the patently flawed review process for the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska. To learn more and to take action, visit standup.tu.org/bristolbay — for additional info, contact Pebble or GA teams.
Contact your Representatives and urge them to vote YES on Rep. Huffman’s Amendment #90, which would prohibit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from finalizing the environmental impact statement for Pebble Mine.here.
Land & Water Conservation Fund: The quest for permanent funding.
On Tuesday, 6/18, the House Natural Resources Committee will markup a suite of bills, including HR 3195 (permanent funding for LWCF) and HR1225 (Maintenance backlog for parks). Tune in to the event or watch the replay here.
