The oldest and richest cultures in the world are Punjab’. Punjab is the heart of India's Sikh Community. Punjab is famous as ‘The land of Five Rivers’. The most famous and stereotyped dish of Punjab is ‘ Sarson Ka Saag and Makki ki roti’( Mustard green bread made from cornmeal i.e. maize flour). The traditional dress in Punjab for men is ‘Kurta and pajama’, and for women is ‘Patiala Salwar’ and ‘Ghagra’ is very popular all around the world.

‘Patiala’ when I hear this word then I am going to my old memories that are related to my childhood. Patiala is that place where my childhood smiled. I love my city from the core of my heart. I remember all the valuable memories and enjoyable days that I spend during my childhood.

Patiala is a city in Southeastern Punjab, northwestern India. Patiala is a royal city. This is also the name ‘ Maharaja da Sher’i.e.City of King.

1. Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib

Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib

Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib is situated in Patiala by the Government of Punjab, which is an elevated site that was visited by the ninth guru in Sikhism name is Shri Guru Teg Bhadur G. This is Sikh architecture. The legend is that anyone who prays at this gurudwara is relieved of his/her suffering i.e. ‘Dukhniwaran’ means relief from any type of pain.

2. Sheesh Mahal

Sheesh, Mahal is a magnificent structure in Patiala. This Place is referred to as the Palace of mirrors. This place was built by Maharaja Narinder Singh in the year 1845 to 1862. According to an architectural point of view, this place is the amalgamation of both Mughal and European styles.

Sheesh, Mahal is a palace that will reminds of the grandeur of the kings and Maharajas of Punjab and their lavish lifestyle. Sheesh, Mahal is built with great art and architectural value. This is an amazing place to visit.

3.Qila Mubarak

Qila Mubarak

Qila Mubarak is a Royal palace that is located in Patiala. This was built by Sidhi Jat ruler Baba Ala Singh in 1763. Qila Mubarak palace was built as a ‘Kachigarhi’ i.e. Mudfortress. The interior portion of this palace is known as ‘Quila Androon’ which was built by Maharaja Amar Singh.

4. National Institute of Sports

National Institute Of Sports

The National Institute of Sports (NIS) is established in 1961 and is spread over 268- acres. This is an academic wing of the Sports Authority Of India i.e.SAI.The National Institute Of Sports is Asia’s largest sports institute that is located in the Punjab city of Patiala.

NIS provides different sports facilities like a Gymnasium, cycling, hockey, squash courts, variable lanes of Athletic tracks, a Wushu Training center, a Fencing training center, and many more.

5. Baradari Garden

Baradari Garden was built in a Mughal style in 1876 by Maharaja Rajinder Singh. Baradari Garden in the north of Patiala city. Baradari Garden's name was derived from two words in Punjabi Bara(Twelve ) and Dar ( Doors) means Twelve Doors. It means a garden with twelve entrances.

Baradari Garden was planted with rare species of trees and flowers. This garden is full of the beauty of nature. In Baradari Garden there is Fern House, and Rock Graden that give this place a unique attraction to visitors.

6. Patiala Heritage Walk

Patiala Heritage Walk begins from a mausoleum. This is also known by the name ‘Shahi Samadhan’.The main building houses the memories of the founder of Patiala -Baba Ala Singh. It is medieval Indian architecture. The best part of this place is an open pavilion with white marble on top. This is the resting place of the royal family of Patiala.

7. Thapar University

Thapar University

Thapar Institute Of Engineering and Technology known as Thapar University is a privately deemed university in Patiala. It was founded by Karam Chand Thapar in 1956. This university is housed on 250-acre land. This institute has been ranked 210 by the QS World University Rankings in the Asia region. This institute has a placement center and also arranges several ‘Industry-institute interaction programs such as Fac.
