Festivals in Ahmedabad, Gujarat

People of Gujarat celebrate each and every festival with zeal and vigor. One can see splendors of color kaleidoscope during the festival celebration as people of different religions come together to celebrate festivals while carrying a message of peace and harmony.

Uttarayan, Navratras, Deepawali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid ul-Fitr and Christmas are celebrated with great fervor in entire Ahmedabad. Apart from the main festivals, many international fairs and expos are also organized in Ahmedabad that too on a large scale. To feel the pulse and fevour of Ahmedabad, one should visit here during the festival season.

During the Uttarayan, international kite festival is famous in Ahmedabad where many traveler from all over the world, come to enjoy the festival.

According to the dwellers of Gujarat, kite flying is a symbolic indication of the change in the weather. On this day, locals are hardly seen on the streets as everybody takes to the rooftop of their respective houses to fly kites and compete with the neighbours. Scrumptious treats like laddoos, undhyu or surati jamun are types of food and sweets that are specially prepared for the festival.

Navratri

Another famous festival which is recognised the world wide is Navratri.

Description of Gujarat festivals is incomplete without the mention of Navratri. Celebrated for nine long days with huge pomp and show, Navratri is dedicated to all the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Communities come together to dance in unison during garba, a seemingly simple dance, where the crowd moves together in a synchronised circular movement.

Seeing people dancing in tune with outfits of gold and silk is a sight to behold.

Ranna Utsav

Welcome to the world’s most perfect salt desert. Kutch diverse terrains can stun anyone because during the monsoon season the area remains covered with water and in winter the water evaporates leaving behind layers of salt. The dramatic landscapes of Kutch rise to full glory when the great Rann Utsav takes place during the winters. Rann Utsav is the time when the desert recedes, allowing itself to be tamed, to be made into a showpiece.

The festival has already wowed people, young and old, first-timers and frequent visitors, who flock to the seasonal salty marsh year after year. Organized by Gujarat tourism, Rann Utsav is organized to celebrate the diversities and uniqueness of Kutch. With such sheer beauty and superficiality of culture, one can say that 'kutch nahi dekha toh kuch nahi dekha.'

Shyamlaji Fair

Held on Kartik Poornima based on the Hindu Calendar, devoted to both Lord Shiva and Vishnu often falls in November. Gujarati’s call it the Shymalaji Melo -celebrated on the banks of the River Meshwo near the well-known Shyamlaji temple.

This three-week-long fair attracts thousands from around the world. Many arrive on foot or riding camel-led carts while singing praises of the Gods.

Therefore, Ahmedabad is the perfect place for solo trips, couple trips and family trips.

I hope by reading this post, you will have a future trip to my beautiful city.
