Magical Paperbark Forest
Stepping Through the Melaleucas

Just outside the small coastal town of Agnes Water, in Queensland Australia lies a magical forest.
When I walk through the forest, I can easily imagine tiny fairies flitting through the treetops and slender elves dashing amid the undergrowth. Perhaps even wise wizards and witches peering from behind papery tree trunks. And grumpy trolls lurking beneath the boardwalks.
Stroll just a few metres from the carpark, and you are fully immersed within a grove of towering paperbark trees (melaleucas).

Bright green cabbage palms grow between the trees.

In wetter times of the year, you’ll need to traverse dark and mysterious pools via boardwalks and stepping stones.

The forest is not large. And the walk is only around 400 meters. But, don’t be surprised if you feel like you’ve been transported to Middle Earth soon after you begin.
Walking the circuit only takes 10 minutes or so. But, you will probably want to do a second lap.

If you ever visit the area, this little gem is a must see.
