The series is based on the Victor LaValle book and has been picked up straight to series.
LaKeith Stanfield is joining the cast for The Changeling, Apple’s high-profile TV series. The alum of Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah, will play the lead in the adaptation of Victor LaValle’s The Changeling that has been picked up straight to series.
Word around town has it that the series is a horror story, parenthood fable, and perilous odyssey through a New York many didn’t know existed, and it has been succinctly described as a fairytale for grown-ups. Stanfield will also executive produce the series.
Adapting the book for the screen is Kelly Marcel (Cruella, Venom, Venom 2), who will also serve as showrunner. In the director’s chair is Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim, Insecure) and she will exec produce alongside Marcel, Stanfield and Annapurna’s Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Patrick Chu and Ali Krug. Khaliah Neal is a co-EP.
Published in 2017, The Changeling was one of the New York Times Book Review’s 100 Notable Books of the year and won horror awards and World Fantasy Award.
Stanfield’s other credits include Sorry to Bother You, Knives Out and Selma. He’s represented by CAA, Colin Stark and Ginsburg Daniels. Matsoukas is represented by CAA, MXN Entertainment and Gang Tyre.
