Simple: This is an interesting piece of technology that helps you to find/track things. Directly attach a Bluetooth-enabled device to your things and find your things or stolen items with the Find My app.

What’s Inside?

  • A Battery — CR2032 coin cell
  • Apple U1 chip
  • Nordic semiconductors — NRF52832 Bluetooth and NFC chip
  • A tiny speaker
  • NFC coil

Airtags look great and small enough to fit a wallet or a purse.

This tech is not new and Tile has a really good products and users too!

Tile has different form factors like the card, the puck, a square tile

But what makes Airtags popular and effective is Apple’s ecosystem. It’s how these airtags interact with the Apple and other android devices to help find the lost thing.

Through AirTag, if you’ve lost one of your belongings close by, you can play a sound that helps you locate it or you can also use the Find My app on your iPhone to find any lost item with an AirTag attached.

Inside Airtag
  • The big silver colored chip is your Apple U1 chip — this uses ultra wideband, which is the short-range, wireless protocol that uses radio waves to give your iPhone a sort of virtual spatial awareness. It can therefore judge the distance and direction to your AirTag, which also contains the U1 chip in its body.
  • The iPhone models that have the U1 chip (iPhone 11 and above) have the ability to steer you to the specific location of a lost item through Precision Finding.
  • The next big thing is the Nordic semiconductors: NRF52832 — This is a microcontroller with integrated Bluetooth and NFC
NFC coil
  • The NFC is used to pair the airtags to a device
  • The AirTag uses a standard CR2032 coin cell battery, which will last over a year.

So its a very good product with the Apple’s ecosystem and a normal Bluetooth based finding device without Apple’s ecosystem.

That’s why Apple is Apple :)

My story right now.
