Welcome to our final Tech Update for 2018! Our dev team has done a frankly astounding amount of work building out the Shyft Network’s architecture and functionality and we couldn’t be prouder. Before our usual development recap, a major congratulations is in order to our development partner, ChainSafe Systems, who are one of three recipients of a 1000 ETH grant from Vitalik Buterin himself, an endorsement of their contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem. Don’t spend it all in one place, folks.

As for the development side of things, we have a partial feature freeze in effect as of December 15th, in order to focus on testing for Mainnet. This freeze encompasses some aspects of our protocol (i.e. our modified Geth node known as the Ring Node, as well as the wallet endpoints), while others (i.e. the Bridge) are still being worked on.

Some more recent developments:

  • Added and manually tested authentication of Whisper broadcast messages between nodes and bridge through a smart contract.
  • Improved core smart contract code architecture in a parent smart contract to support changing the number of administrators for our core contracts.
  • Next steps: submitting the smart contract code for audit, perform longevity testing, and getting Bridge functionality and interoperability up to snuff.
  • Work has begun in earnest on our public developer documentation, which should be nice and robust by the time mainnet goes live!

As many of our devs enjoy time off for the holidays, we would also like to extend our warmest holiday and new year’s wishes to everyone who has been following Shyft on our journey to mainnet (and beyond). Shortly into the new year, you can expect to hear more about the timing and nature of our launch.

Cheers!
