Lately, Trump’s Twitter has been suspended permanently in accuse of inciting violence and misleading public opinion. This event marks a success in defending the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ethics. These years have witnessed a great emphasis on the ICT ethnics. So why do people pay much attention to ICT ethics? Because the Internet is never a land beyond the law.

As Floridi stated in his book Ethics after the Information Evolution, “Our technological tree has been growing its far-reaching branches much more widely, rapidly and chaotically than its conceptual, ethnical and cultural roots”, technology is growing so rapidly while its regulations are far behind. With the lack of regulations, the Internet will grow like a tree without trimming, breeding violence and underground illegal activities. As what happened on Jan 6th, a group of rioters stormed and captured Washington D.C., the capitol of the U.S. Those rioters seriously affected the political activities in the United State and caused social unrest. Behind them, there was president Trump supporting them and called them great patriots on Twitter. Hearing this, twitter finally determined its mind to permanently suspend Donald Trump’s twitter. Some said this is a violence of free of speech, but in my opinion, Twitter finally made a right decision. An important thing to remeber is that free speech does not equal to speak anything you want. Even in the country like U.S. that continuously propagate the value of free of speech, there are still bottomlines such as no content for illegal activities, violence or children pornography. However, Trump’s speech of calling these mobs ‘great patriots’ is clearly a provocative behaviour that support these criminal activities. I would like to quote a famous sentence from Rousseau, ‘Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains’. On the internet, people have the right to post their own opinion, while they also have the obligation to observe the ICT ethics. What’s more, only after setting up suitable regulations to guarantee the ethics and strictly following them, the Information and Communication Technology will have a long-lasting and stable development.
