SiaClassic is thrilled to announce we’ll be collaborating with ActiveAether to use the storage in our network. Led by visionary founder, Robert MacInnis, Ph.D., an expert in distributed systems and a pioneer in fog computing, ActiveAether utilizes processing power on computers across the globe as part of its serverless fog platform. Computer owners are compensated via ActiveAether’s FogCoin cryptocurrency.

“Making SiaClassic’s decentralized storage available on ActiveAether is one more way we’re enabling developers to run as broad a range of applications as possible on the network,” said Dr. MacInnis. “We appreciate that SiaClassic shares our mission to leverage the computing resources that surround us in our daily lives.” For SiaClassic, the collaboration provides additional utility for the distributed storage in our network.

Two Powerhouses at Work

Collaborations like this one with ActiveAether further our efforts to establish a foothold for the SiaClassic storage network in the Internet of Things. As a distributed computing solution, ActiveAether’s platform makes nearby computing power easily accessible to developers, making it ideal for the traffic-heavy and geographically distributed Internet of Things. Collaboration with SiaClassic will enable ActiveAether to make nearby storage accessible as well. For readers unfamiliar with The Internet of Things, it is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these items to connect, collect, and exchange data. These devices can communicate and interact over the internet, and they can be remotely monitored and controlled. Smart devices like Amazon’s Alexa and Nest are considered a part of the Internet of things.

Internet of Things devices are constantly sending and receiving data that needs to be processed and stored somewhere. With ActiveAether’s FogCoin and SiaClassic, computer owners can earn a passive income simply by making the laptops, workstations, and phones they already own discoverable to the ActiveAether network. As efficient, distributed computing solutions, SiaClassic and ActiveAether both address skyrocketing demand for computing resources by utilizing the computers already all around us instead of introducing new hardware.

The Wizard Behind the Curtain

When it comes to making distributed computing architectures work at global scale, Dr. Robert MacInnis’ expertise is second to none. Dr. MacInnis holds several patents in the distributed computing space, and has long been regarded as a thought leader among his peers. Having earned his doctorate for a thesis entitled “A Scalable Architecture for the Demand-driven Deployment of Location-neutral Software Services” at the University of St. Andrews in 2010, his work is the foundation for the now-patented ActiveAether architecture enabling the FogCoin marketplace.

Most recently, he has built and brought to market AetherStore, distributed storage software that is used daily by tens of thousands across the globe. We consider ourselves lucky to hold court with Dr. MacInnis, who has over a decade’s worth of accomplishments in the distributed systems and fog computing landscape.

A New Path

We’re merely scratching the surface of what’s to come for SiaClassic. As collaborations like our work with ActiveAether & FogCoin continue to take shape, we further our mission to make the most of the hardware so many of us already own and embed our network within the Internet of Things. We can’t wait to share more news with all of you in the coming months!
