Introducing a new end-to-end toolchain for autonomous driving

Developing solutions for autonomous driving requires massive amounts of data, diverse computational resources and most importantly, an efficient toolchain to streamline development.

Dell Technologies recently announced a new reference architecture to support the specific needs of automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and AD developers. As part of the Autonomous Drive Ecosystem, SiaSearch was selected as an official data curation solution.

About The Dell Autonomous Drive Ecosystem

The Dell Autonomous Drive Ecosystem is an open development system that extends from edge-to-core-to-cloud. This toolchain provides a roadmap of solutions that bring together a powerful infrastructure, deep industry expertise, comprehensive services and specialized software for building Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) solutions.

With Dell Technologies and its extensive network of automotive industry partners, you have the ultimate flexibility to adapt as little or as many of the tools and services as you need. The Autonomous Drive Ecosystem represents a wide variety of solutions that capture every step of the ADAS workflow. In every step of the process, Dell’s architecture combines Dell Technologies and partner infrastructure, software, and services for a complete development and deployment toolchain.

Dell Technologies & SiaSearch

As part of the Autonomous Driving Partner Ecosystem, SiaSearch was selected as an official data curation solution. Together, Dell Technologies and SiaSearch remove typical data bottlenecks with a scalable solution that provides a foundation for efficient AD development, even as stored sensor data approaches the exabyte range.

With Dell PowerScale NAS, SiaSearch interacts efficiently with raw data wherever it is stored, whether it’s on-premise or in the cloud. SiaSearch automatically extracts and stores metadata in a proprietary database for quick access. SiaSearch also enables users to integrate additional metadata, whether it’s created manually, automatically, by the user, or a third party.

Following extraction, end-users can interact with autonomous driving data via GUI and API to quickly analyze, query, and curate datasets for labeling, training, and validation — outperforming query performance of common SQL and NoSQL solutions by three orders of magnitude. In turn, SiaSearch sends the raw data references to Dell’s DataIQ (included with PowerScale) which selects the relevant raw data and moves it according to the user’s needs. This complete data-loop solution introduces efficiency at scale to the data-handling process.

This solution brings together Dell EMC PowerScale scale-out network-attached storage (NAS) and SiaSearch’s data platform to provide engineers enhanced visibility and clear-cut access to their data, whether that data is stored on-premises or in the cloud. Rather than manual data handling, SiaSearch empowers AD engineers to focus less on manual data handling, and dedicate their time to what really matters: building great models.
