Have you ever walked into a building and immediately, felt a connection with the space. An environment where your senses explode. You see inspiring spaces. You feel creative energies flowing. You experience a zen-like calmness as floral aromas scent the air.

How do designers create these visually engaging places?

In today’s tech-driven world, businesses are learning how to integrate new technologies in the ways employees prefer to work and to deliver extraordinary customer value.

Vocon, a leading architecture firm, does just that — designing beautiful buildings that visually stimulate and perform functionally with people in mind. They take a unique project approach by merging 2D and 3D worlds before the ground-breaking even begins.

Using traditional design and production tools, Vocon integrates virtual reality (VR) and gaming technology in to a visual collaboration workspace (Bluescape). This virtual space or container is where all content and designs can be worked on, shared and presented.

For example, a project meeting is set to finalize plans for an outdoor office plaza. Vocon launches the integrated VR, design, and rendering tools in a meeting room using large format touch-enabled Dell screens. The client, wearing a VR headset, sees the plaza layout of tables, chairs, and landscaping as they walk through the space.

The 3D tour is simultaneously presented in a digital workspace and is viewable on the interactive screens. Everyone in the meeting can follow the tour whether they are in-the-room or attending remotely. A designer drives the real-time tour and can add, delete, or change design elements on the fly using the CAD application. The changes render instantly in VR and on screen. A video animation of the tour is also captured for later review.

“Let’s move these tables and benches to allow for better traffic flow.”

“Let’s raise the height of the dining canopies to create open spaces.”

As ideas and changes spring forth, a project lead takes snapshots during the VR tour by capturing and snapping images right on the physical touchscreen. The content automatically pops into the project workspace for everyone to see.

Later, client and project teams can discuss design elements, write notes, add drawings, and upload content to the workspace via a touchscreen, laptop or mobile device. All designs and meeting notes are saved and available for ongoing work.

The ability to visualize and interact with 3D environments allows Vocon’s clients to see designs, understand spatial relationships and experience spaces like never before. They are brought in and their ideas heard throughout every step of the project. Decisions and projects move faster.

For Vocon, they can “finally” show their customers grand ideas and together, visualize it and build it. Meetings take on a more dynamic and collaborative experience.

Vocon designers are no longer hampered by the limitations of existing tools. Using the power of VR and emerging technologies, innovation drives new business results. Remote teams work together better. Time is spent on important work, design, and production, instead of repetitive, time-consuming tasks. New levels of client engagement forge deeper relationships.

The end results stand out as you walk into Vocon-designed buildings. A client’s vision takes shape as visually-stunning spaces, designed to inspire the people within.
