Back in the days (2020–2023), earning $$$ on a story was a minimum, and $$$$ wasn’t uncommon:

But I started de-prioritising Medium in 2023 to focus on the business, and I’ve been public about it, even when I conducted webinars about growing on Medium.

So, here’s what helps (super quick tips):

1. Write from a place of fun. The above stories you see that have got $$$$ are written from a mindset of fun and personal experience instead of wanting to game the algorithm or earn money.
2. Even when the algorithm changes, like Medium’s did, and it stopped paying me $$$$ every month — show up. Write for the joy of writing because if the algorithm changes how you feel about the art, then you were never in love with it.
