The other day, my kids were watching a video by their favorite YouTube creator.

In this particular video, the host was riffing on some clownishly bad mobile games and was showing related footage while he did it.

This reminded me that, for a long time now, I’ve been meaning to figure out how to screen capture video from my own phone for MY channel.

For example, I wanted to be able to screen record my Yahoo finance app for the stock market videos I publish regularly.

I’d done some cursory research on paid apps for this purpose, but I figured, “Hey, kids know more than adults about technology … why not ask them?”

And sure enough, my eldest son taught me how to do it in seconds — and for free.

Here’s how to video screen record on your iPhone.

Step 1: Check if the record function is active

Step 1 is to check if your record function is active.

This was why I couldn’t figure out how to screen record in the past.

If you swipe down on the right side of your screen, you’ll have quick access to things like airplane mode, wifi, flashlight, etc.
