It’s been a long time coming, but the Quest 3 update for QuestCraft is finally here!

After months of hard work by CADIndie and team, they finally revealed QuestCraft 5.0—and we’ve had the chance to install it, play it (a lot), and share how you can start playing it too with this handy guide!

What’s new for QuestCraft 5.0?

QuestCraft 5.0 is packed with a ton of new features to improve your QuestCraft experience, in addition to it finally running on Quest 3:

  • Performance improvements and bug fixes
  • Boosted FPS from 45 to 120—a massive 169% increase!
  • Improved mod compatibility and resource utilization, meaning more mods and worlds to explore
  • A redesign of the QuestCraft launcher—for accessibility, quality of life, and aesthetics
  • Support for the original Oculus Quest, meaning it’s now playable on Quest 1, 2, and 3!

But before you can dive into QuestCraft, you’ll need to buy Minecraft…

How to get Minecraft: Java & Bedrock

To ensure we’re all keeping things nice and legal, we need to remind everyone that while QuestCraft is free on SideQuest, Minecraft itself is not free and you will need to buy it to ensure QuestCraft works as it should—and to avoid piracy.

You’ll need to buy the Java & Bedrock edition of Minecraft and create a Microsoft account for it if you haven’t got one already.

We’ll need these account details later to sync everything up with QuestCraft, but for now, you can get the Java Edition of Minecraft by following the link below.

How to play QuestCraft on your Quest 3

Once you have Minecraft Java, installing and getting QuestCraft up and running on your Quest headset is easier than ever! And you can manage it in X simple steps:

Step One: Sideload Questcraft

First, you’ll need to sideload QuestCraft onto your Quest 3. This is incredibly easy, and you can manage it using either the SideQuest desktop app or by using our in-VR app — whichever you prefer!

If you’re using SideQuest on your desktop, just make sure your Quest is plugged in (using a USB-C cable) and connected by checking for the green dot in the corner of the screen.

If you’re on desktop, you can follow this link to get QuestCraft now:

[GET QUESTCRAFT!]

Click the big button that says ‘sideload’ and you’ll install QuestCraft onto your headset. It’s that easy!

When it’s installed, whack your headset on (if you’re not wearing it already), go to your apps page, and filter for Unknown Sources. You should see QuestCraft in this list.

So, go ahead and open it up.

Step Two: Link your Microsoft account

Once you have QuestCraft open, click the ‘Sign in’ button and you’ll get a short message telling you to open your web browser and head to Microsoft.com/link to link your Microsoft account. You’ll need a unique code to do this—and you’ll see your code displayed in red in the body of the message.

Once again, you can manage this step on your computer or from the Meta browser in your headset. We’d recommend using the Meta browser in your headset since you’re there already!

Type the address into your browser and you’ll be asked to input your red code, so type it into the box exactly as it appears.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll be asked to complete your Microsoft account sign-in, which may require you to verify your identity using an authenticator app. The exact method depends on how you’ve set up your account, but it’s easy to follow the instructions for whichever method they require.

This should take you no more than a minute to complete and, once it’s done, you can close your browser down, return to QuestCraft and access the main menu!

PLEASE NOTE: You might encounter a little quirk during authentication, getting a popup saying something went wrong after you input your code. But you can go ahead and ignore that message. Close the browser, go back to Questcraft, and click sign in — it should work.

Step Three: Update to the latest version

Once you’re at the main QuestCraft menu, click ‘Play’ and the app will install the necessary files for the latest version—and you’ll need this latest version before you can play properly. A small message will appear in the bottom corner of the menu screen while this happens—and you’ll need to wait a little for it to do its thing, so please be patient.

Once the numbers have stopped crunching, click ‘Play’ again and the game will boot up!

You’ll see a black screen for a minute or so, so once again, be patient with it—but in just under one minute, you should be dropped into the game!

Step 4: You’re ready to play!

From here, you can create a new world to play solo, join your friends in multiplayer, install mods, experiment with different options to customize your experience — everything you’d expect from Minecraft on your PC!

Be sure to leave your feedback!

Independent teams like CADIndie and Co. work incredibly hard to bring us VR ports, mods, and games like QuestCraft. Therefore, if you have a great experience with the game, please leave some feedback on SideQuest! This will help them make further improvements (plus, it’s just nice to share good thoughts, eh?).

And if you run into issues, they have a Discord channel where you can get support, learn tips and tricks, and much more!

Lemme tell you, this new version is so much quicker and easier to install than it used to be! But, hopefully, you found this tutorial helpful — and you’re now ready to dive into the many worlds of Minecraft on your Quest 3!
