Tanay — I will always remember as a lush green and cool getaway that’s very easy to get to from Manila. We were longing to be up in the mountains but not thirsty for a trek so we thought of Treasure Mountain as a solution to end our adventure drought! It is famous for it’s sea of clouds offering without having to trek up steep terrains.

Getting to Treasure Mountain:

via Marcos Highway

We decided to take a car and weaved through Cogeo, Masinag and Boso-boso via Marcos Highway. After about an hour into the twists and turns we took a left (sabi ni Waze) and entered a small barrio. It’s the same jump-off as the Maysawa Circuit (Mt. Sapari, and Mt. Binutasan).

tip:pag nakita niyo yung Masungi Georeserve (on the right) ibig sabihin malapit na kayo

It was raining very hard for weeks prior to our visit so naturally the road is very muddy. Once you get past the highway it’s all rough road although the drive would just take 10 minutes thereafter.

Day 1

  • 12:30 pm luch + meet up at Buendia
  • 1:30 pm EDSA is horrendous!!!
  • 5:00 pm check in
  • 5:30 pm tent set up

It was very good of them to offer a covered area to set up our tent since the rain is gusty but not too harsh. We did manage to put it up just as the light was at its’ lowest. haha! Kudos to our team work! We did have a baon of tocino, itlog na maalat and tomatoes. We ate beside our tent, and for some reason dinner lasted two hours, maybe it was the endless stories from everyone.

Accomodation:

They offer small huts for PHP 3,500 (6 pax)

tents rentals PHP 500 (2 pax) | PHP 800 (4 pax)

sleeping mattress PHP 200

Tal — with our tent yey!!

Woke up around 5:30 am to this sea of fog and it’s a refreshing sight from all the the bustle of the city that I wake up to everyday.

view from the tent
Tapsilog :D

We ordered food from their restaurant. It’s a bit pricey at 150 but worth it because it’s yummy, tender and hefty! They have Benguet freshly brewed coffee too!

Cost

  • 200 PHP —entrance per pax
  • 300 PHP — tent pitch
  • 20 PHP — tric from bus stop to Crystal beach
  • 150 PHP —breakfast (Day 2)
the views are majestic from the rope course

After breakfast we saw a group working their way up the rope course so we went to watch for a bit (we were suppose to go back to sleep in the tent) but the senior guide who built the course came up to us and enthusiastically invited us to come back down. Dahil uto uto kami — that’s exactly what we did.

It was a bit daunting so I decided to go first so I won’t chicken out later.

It was composed of various rope styles with different degrees of difficulty. After suiting us up with a harness there was a safety briefing — common do’s and don’ts when you’re up there. They charge PHP 200 per pax for the rope course.

awesome view up there — I told you!
the one on the left is the hardest part of it
sige nagkandasilaw silaw na :)) HAHAHA

It was a bit difficult at times but nothing unmanageable. minsan lang talaga kailangan ng tapang and most of all presence of mind.

It was a very good experience we did not expect to have coming up to Tanay. Thanks Treasure Mountain! :)
