Having lived most of my life in Mexico City, we’ve always heard about huge festivals being held in the United States — from the legendary Coachella and Lollapalooza, to newer ones like Marfa Myths and Desert Days.

SXSW was no exception.

We have been hearing about it for years, from friends who’ve flown to Austin and back with the most amazing stories. When I knew the Siglo team was heading to SXSW, I couldn’t be more excited!

Friday, March 9

From the moment I landed in Austin, I was instantly consumed by the city’s energy and eclectic vibe.

I immediately joined the team at the World Tokenomic Forum/Blockhaus event, just in time for Isaac and Joel’s presentation on Siglo. In addition to presenting on Siglo’s role in bringing financial and digital inclusion to emerging markets, Joel also announced that we just recently crossed a million registered users on the Pig.gi app — the first DApp to be powered by the Siglo Protocol.

After the presentation, we made it to the Consensys Ethereal Lounge, where we mingled with a lot of the cryptocurrency community from around the world.

Sunday, March 11

In the afternoon, Isaac participated in the SXSW Initial Taco Offering, an event produced by The Founders Organization. He sat on a panel moderated by Mashable’s Kerry Flynn on how blockchain startups go beyond the hype alongside Hartej Sahwney (co-founder of Hosho Group) and Zohar Dayan (co-founder and CEO of Wibbitz).

That evening, we hosted our first SXSW sashimi feast with Tech Open Air for the New Kids on the Blockchain dinner and panel.

In addition to being the first to indulge in delectably fresh fish in Austin, guests enjoyed an engaging discussion with blockchain experts Kathleen Breitman (Co-Founder, Tezos), DJ Qian (Founder, Fusion), Neha Narula (Director of Digital Currency Initiative at MIT Media Lab), Vinny Lingham (CEO, Civic), Paul Vigna (Wall Street Journal markets reporter and co-author of The Truth Machine: The Blockchain and the Future of Everything).

Monday, March 12

We had an exceptional venue at Warbach Lighting and Design thanks to our co-host Restless Group. The night was filled with exciting entertainment by performing friends, great bands and once again, an amazing sushi experience.

Isaac and Joel took the stage for the last time on this Austin trip to champion the need for connectivity in countries like Mexico and Colombia. The venue was packed with crypto enthusiasts who made this one of the most unforgettable experiences of the Siglo Tour.

We are grateful for all the people we have met in the road and for all the people we still have to meet somewhere.

For me, this will for sure be the first of many SXSW experiences to come.

Next stop: Crypto Rico!!!
