Susan J. Fowler — Engineer @ Stripe
Susan resides in Berkley, CA, where she is an engineer at Stripe. Prior to Stripe, Susan worked at Uber as a Site Reliability Engineer. She recently made headlines with her blog post detailing the culture of misogyny at Uber and the sexual harassment that she experienced during her time working there. Susan is also an accomplished author, engineer, and enthusiast of all things related to computer science, math, physics, and philosophy. She has recently published her second book, Production-Ready Microservices: Building Standardized Systems Across an Engineering Organization, where she details how to design microservices that are stable, reliable, scalable, and prepared for any catastrophe.
Tammy Butow — Site Reliability Engineering Manager @ Dropbox
When she is not surfing, snowboarding or skateboarding, this Australian native and recent San Francisco transplant works at Dropbox, where she has earned the title of Site Reliability Engineering Manager. Prior to this team-leading position, she had worked as a Product Engineer, Security Engineer, and Infrastructure Engineer for several years after earning her master’s degree in computer science from RMIT University in Australia.
She is also the co-founder of the Girl Geek Academy, which aims to empower over 1 million women by 2025 by educating them with technical skills. One of the academy’s programs, Miss Makes Code, has been developed for 5 to 8 year-old girls and recently received a $3.9 million dollar grant from the Australian government to support the initiative.
Charity Majors — Engineer & Co-Founder @ Honeycomb
With over a decade of direct engineering and team building experience, including almost 3 years working as Production Engineering Manager at Facebook, Charity became the co-founder and CTO of Honeycomb, a startup that is as she puts it “focused on making machine data explorable and delightful.” In addition to building strong enthusiastic teams, Charity is passionate about building technologies that materially improve people’s lives.
Neha Narkhede — Co-founder & Head of Engineering @ Confluent
Neha is best known as the co-creator of Apache Kafka, the open-source distributed streaming platform that enables the collection of large volume data for real-time consumption. Apache Kafka has been adopted by tech giants such as Linkedin, Netflix, Salesforce, AirBnb, and more. Prior to developing Apache Kafka, Neha was in charge of streams infrastructure at Linkedin. Most recently, Neha co-founded Confluent, a company that helps enterprises to adopt Apache Kafka and provide an elegant solution to the age-old problem of data movement in a reliable and scalable way.
Alice Goldfuss — Site Reliability Engineer @ New Relic
Alice works as part of the New Relic central SRE and infrastructure team that supports over 200 developers and a multi-data center infrastructure with over 700 hosts and over 200 deployed containers. Alice was also a technical contributor to the influential text Docker: Up & Running and Effective DevOps and has been a featured speaker at a number of DevOps conferences around the world. When Alice is not sifting through Docker containers, optimizing servers and maintaining the main data pipeline at New Relic, this DevOps all-star and Portland resident enjoys the company of her feline companions, drinking tea, and ranting about feminism.
Jessie Frazelle — Software Engineer @ Google
Alongside her successful career at Google, Jessie Frazelle is a major contributor to Linux, Dockers and Kubernetes, as well as other open source projects and communities like runC and Golang. Via her blogging and conference talks, she consistently engages industry issues like quality and features, as well as the end user and contributor experiences. Jessie keeps herself busy organizing and promoting industry inclusivity through meet ups for women, Women Who Go, and is leading the way for open source maintainers by organizing a conference called maintainerati.org. Her work has earned her a nomination in the 2017 Women in Open Source Community Award in which she is currently a finalist.
Madhura Maskasky — Co-founder, VP Product @ Platform9 Systems
After spending 7 years as a technical lead at VMware, where she was the technical lead for a number of key products, Madhura co-founded Platform9 Systems in 2013, and currently holds the title of Head of Product. In 2004, Madhura earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, specializing in databases and distributed systems. When she isn’t focused on managing and perfecting the Platform9 product, Madhura enjoys rock climbing, swing dancing, and exploring San Francisco.
Bridget Kromhout — Principal Technologist @ Pivotal Software
With over 15 years of experience as an operations engineer, Bridget now finds herself organizing, speaking, and traveling to a number of tech conferences around the world. She heads the devopsdays organization internationally, as well as leads and promotes the DevOps community at home in Minneapolis. Bridget is also an active blogger, and co-host of the Arrested DevOps podcast — which promotes the understanding and development of proper DevOps practices that maximize organizational efficiency.
Katherine Daniels — Senior Operations Engineer @ Etsy
Katherine Daniels received her degree in computer science from Colorado State University, and began her career as a system administrator at LiveStream, where she worked on R&D and systems engineering on workstations, with a focus on Linux storage and Windows graphic solutions. Today, she lives in Brooklyn where she works as the senior operations engineer at Etsy. Katherine recently co-wrote a book Effective DevOps: Building a Culture of Collaboration, Affinity, and Tooling at Scale. When she is not scaling automation and leading the DevOps team at Etsy, Katherine enjoys rock climbing, home-brewing beer, and playing the cello.
