A professional networking platform for creatives like artists, photographers, designers, and writers.
The client approached us with a messy, built up product and asked to simplify and redesign the product from the ground up. So the work started by dismantling the entire platform into the independent components that constituted it, and then building them back up into more meaningful and clean modules of a cohesive product.
The mandate was also to make the interface ‘come alive’ to quote the clients’ own words, which was accomplished by taking a series of measures in crafting the design language for the platform. The design of Whatsurskill is replete with several delightful visual quirks even where you would least expect to find them, apart from being coherently structured and wrapped in lively colours juxtaposed against a deep background. An analogy would be the enriching and lively forests of Avatar’s Pandora at night.
Since the platform is for creatives, it was imperative that the interface of the platform itself reflect a creatively inclined aesthetic. So the design was crafted with a synchronous choreography of typography, layout, actions, palette and all the accents and elements to form a cohesive, quirky and beautiful visual language across the platform.
Whatsurskill is composed of four key components: Projects, Competitions, Organizations and Workshops. Each of these four is governed by its own set of instructions and parameters, thereby requiring its own unique layout and design.
There are two kinds of users, namely: Individuals and Organizations. Both of these users can make posts. This is similar to Facebook, wherein both individuals and pages can share posts and users following those accounts see the posts in a certain algorithm defined order.
Each post is labelled with one of four color coded hashtags, namely #art, #design, #photography and #writing, which are the four creative fields allowed on Whatsurskill. The interface also has a lot of useful hover actions that in a way define the interaction system of the platform.
