Bioware's new IP, Anthem

At Microsoft’s E3 press conference fan favourite developer Bioware took a moment to reflect on its last two massive RPGs, Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda.

The storied developer admitted it had failed to tell compelling stories in recent years, with Inquisition only really getting good in the DLC, and Andromeda so much of a shambles it killed their Montreal studio.

Rather than address the cliches and poor villains that loomed large in both games, Bioware zagged in entirely new direction.

Another's main competitor, Destiny 2

As evidenced by today’s Gameplay demo, Anthem is going to be all action, all co-op, all the time. This fits with EA’s strategy of aping Activision properties. When we pressed an EA marketing exec after the Microsoft conference he told us:

Bazinga! Anthem is like Destiny 2 but better! It is kewl (his inflection, not ours) with shooting and looting and we even have a radical loot cave! It beats Destiny 2 at everything, even coming earlier on the alphabet man! Let’s see anyone try to release a game that will appear earlier in lists than Anthem!

We felt too sad to inform him of the rumours that at their press conference tomorrow Ubisoft will be announcing their latest co-op action open world game, Aardvark: Tom Clancy's.
