The one collector’s edition we ALL need

On a slow news day during the South By Southwest “Gotta Go Fast” panel, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka announced that the lovable blue hedgehog isn’t as fast as we’d thought or hoped. Originally scheduled to release during the spring in the US, Sonic Mania will now instead launch in the summer.

Sonic Mania is purported to deliver fans classic-style gameplay, graphics and sound, but this delay ensures that the sequel will not deliver the classic-style speed that fans have come to know the franchise for.

Maybe if he'd stop fucking around, Sonic would arrive on time

Sonic is set to arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, unless he slows down even further. Previously, Sonic sacrificed speed with Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, which was delayed by a year as Sega stepped away from enforcing deadlines. Slowing down has worked wonders for the franchise — where Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal only managed a measly Metacritic metascore of 47, Fire and Ice managed to reach a decidedly average score of 62! It looks like greatness is once again within Sonic’s reach.
