Many donation centers and foundations will appreciate any efforts you give to spread a little more joy this time of year, but if you’re looking for a specific way to pay things forward for families and children in need, consider Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots History
You’ve likely heard the name Toys for Tots before, but did you know that’s not the organization’s full name? It’s Marine Corps Toys for Tots. Back in 1991, this foundation was created at the request of the United States Marine Corps who wanted a way to give hope to children who are part of less fortunate families.
The foundation is made up of two elements: Program Services and Support Services. Program Services include the collection and distribution of toys, support of local coordinators, and education. Support for local coordinators involves the manufacturing and production of promotional material. Education refers to the efforts of the program to get their mission statements and goals out to the public.
Support Services include management and general activities. This means anything necessary to keep the foundation running from the perspective of a business. Fundraising is also part of the Support Services element of the foundation. The foundation is run like a well-oiled machine, but its mission and objective remain clear: this is all for and about the children.
Toys for Tots Mission and Objective
A board of directors governs Toys for Tots, each and every one of them veteran Marines and successful business leaders. The main part of the foundation’s mission statement is to provide “a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas.” Any further promotional or education efforts by the foundation in keeping with its Program and Support Services are used to uphold that ultimate goal.
Simply put, Toys for Tots wants all children in the country to experience the joy of Christmas. And if that’s not a goal worth contributing to, we don’t know what is. That’s why this year, we’re part of the Toys for Tots team, working to spread the joy of Christmas to those who need it most.
