How Medium works in an Entrepreneurship Class:
As I experiment with Medium, I find that its ability to provide exposure to quality content is valuable in class — students in Kazakhstan get access to the same material that entrepreneurs in the US. So as a source of content, Medium has been great so far.
As a platform for student publications, we’re still going through learning pains. Though naturals at Twitter and Instagram, some students needed time wrapping their heads around the Publication/Magazine concept. I’m also embaressed to say that I thought writer’s posts automatically flowed through to the Publication — turns out the writer has to deliberately push it through.
So far there’s been a wide range of commitment among students, and Medium has been good in being an honest judge of that. A few teams have already gone out to do customer surveys, while others have just barely gotten their teams together. I suspect this is due to how the class was set up at different schools — at one university the class is mandatory (don’t ask me why), whereas at another it was purely an elective.
Though its still very early in the semester, a few teams are already starting to show some real promise. I’m looking forward to seeing what the year will bring.
