“Obversion”, a first-person puzzle-platformer game that has been in the works for a year, has finally been released on Steam on January 28 this year.

This game is the creation of solo indie game dev, Adrian Marple (@marplebot), on which he worked on this for a little over a year. “Obversion” is a first-person puzzle-platformer in the same vein as “Portal”/“Portal 2” or “The Talos Principle”; but it is more abstract-looking like “Antichamber” or “Manifold Garden” or that game that appeared in Indie Megabooth in GDC 2016 called “Metareal”.

The gameplay loop involves jumping puzzles, and the ability to create or destroy blocks in order to traverse the environment and get to the end or exit of the level.

The ability to create or destroy blocks are limited by the number of items that can be picked up in a level, therefore the challenge lies in finding the optimal and most efficient route and placement of blocks.

Each of the levels have a unique aesthetic, and interesting verticality to their level designs. Like the game “Baba Is You”, “Obversion” starts out simple to familiarize players with the mechanics, but gradually ramps up the difficulty.

Fortunately, there are anti-frustration features, like a jump-assist and the ability to undo your moves.

For a limited time — until February 4, 2020 — “Obversion” can be bought with a 15% discount on Steam, and is available for PC, Mac, and Linux. Buy it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1102040/Obversion/
