Help us rebuild the oldest system in the world — the agricultural supply chain

Silo builds tools to bring transparency and efficiency to the agricultural supply chain. We make the paperwork easier for the farmers, wholesalers, and buyers so that they can market their products at desired prices and buyers can easily find thousands of supplies. This process dramatically reduces waste and increases product freshness for millions of consumers.

We are a team of bright engineers, product designers, and business specialists taking on the challenge of transforming a century old industry. Silo is a VC backed Series A start-up, and we’re located in the San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood.

Why Silo?

We will work hard to make sure your decision to join us is worthwhile and rewarding. You’ll learn how a start-up operates and learn skills that will help you at any point in your career. You will be in charge of significant engineering efforts andget exposed to how the business works. You will be empowered to take initiative and get support to execute an idea frombeginning to the end.

We don’t just want to hire people who fit into our culture; we want to hire people who will add to it. You’re helping build a team that we expect to grow fast. Your work will have a direct impact on people involved in end-to-end agricultural supply chain operations: farmers, wholesalers, retailers, and their customers. The Silo marketplace is already live and hasbuyers and sellers who love the value that Silo provides them. Through optimizing the supply chain we believe Silo will help reduce the prevailing food waste problem around the world.

We face new challenges every day and view this as an opportunity to learn and be creative. We do this by being open-minded and transparent so we can help each other grow and get things right. We share thoughts on how we make decisions and welcome everyone to make improvements.

What you will do

As a site reliability engineer, you will be responsible for building a CI/CD pipeline from the ground up and ensuring that whole infrastructure of Silo is robust, secure and reliable. You will work with backend and frontend engineers to design effective deployment frameworks and developer productivity tools. Our backend is written in Go and connected to a Postgres database, all currently deployed on Heroku while a migration to AWS is underway. Our frontend is a React Single Page App written in TypeScript.

Why SRE at Silo

As our first SRE hire you will take ownership over Silo’s infrastructure and lead us towards our goal of scaling to the moon. Outside of using your system architecture skills to handle our rapidly growing user base and food traceability needs, you will dictate how we go about making infrastructure decisions in the future and design our process behind how we ensure Silo is available when our users most need it. You should be excited to tackle the problems that arise with mission critical software: our users rely on Silo every day to ensure people receive the food they need. Additionally, you will be instrumental in growing the SRE organization at Silo, helping us continue to recruit and hire engineers who are as excited to tackle the many issues in the agricultural supply chain as we are and join us in our mission to ensure Silo can handle what our farmers, distributors, retailers, and food banks need, whenever they need it.
