SEPTEMBER 3, 2018–Silsbee’s football season opener took a tough hit on Friday after the Port Neches-Groves Indians second half surge proved too much for the Tigers in a 48–14 loss at the Reservation on Friday.

Silsbee (0–1) looked to keep up with the Indians early by tying the game 14–14 in the second quarter after a 71-yard run by junior Dralyn Taylor, who played RB and QB for the Tigers. Taylor finished the evening with 70 yards on 10 carries and one TD.

PN-G (1–0) opened up the game on its first drive of the game, scoring on a 9-play drive led by senior 4-star QB and Texas commit Roschon Johnson.

Silsbee answered quickly on a 56-yard TD reception by senior Darshon Turk from junior QB Corben Johnson to tie the game 7–7.

With PN-G leading 14–7, Silsbee scored in the second quarter on Taylor’s run to tie 14–14. However, on the ensuing PN-G drive, Johnson scored on an 18-yard run to give the Indians a 21–14 lead.

Defensive linemen Dolen Kennon and Cody Duncan (52) converge on Port Neches-Groves QB Roschon Johnson on Friday at the Reservation in Port Neches.

Late in the second quarter, the back-breaker for Silsbee was an attempted end-around pass that ended in a PN-G linebacker 82-yard INT return for a touchdown to end the second quarter, giving the Indians a 35–14 lead at the half.

Johnson led Silsbee at QB completing 5 of 10 passes for 111 yards and one TD. Sophomore RB Antonius Arline finished with 55 yards on 10 carries.

Silsbee will travel to Newton (1–0) on Friday for its second game of the season. Defending state 3A champion Newton is coming off of a 71–0 win over Kirbyville last Friday.
