Film Review — The Nun II

An unscary, illogical, murky, ridiculous addition to this increasingly tedious horror series

My original plan was to ignore The Nun II, as I didn’t really want to see it, but the great unwashed have made it a box office hit, so I’m obliged to have an opinion. Thus, I dutifully dragged myself to the multiplex last night with low expectations that still proved unreasonably high.

As you can see, I’m rather fed up with the so-called Conjuring universe. Why does everything need a “universe” these days? The Conjuring was a solid demonic possession horror story, and the immediate sequel worked well too, but as is the way with Hollywood, they’re determined to bleed the damn thing dry. Thus, we have this tiresome sequel to the even more tiresome Conjuring spin-off; an eye-rolling exercise in deceased equine flagellation. Yes, I suppose it’s a slight improvement on the last one, but death by hanging is a slight improvement on being hanged, drawn, and quartered.

The plot involves the return of Marilyn Manson. I mean the demon nun Valak. This time this unholy entity is on a priest-murdering tour across 1950s France, where the accents are inexplicably English and American, as well as French.
