Antonio de Pasquale (now Associate Creative Director at frog) and I decided to try something new: talk about design topics in a very technical conference. This is essentially the reason why we submitted our paper at Codemotion Madrid in 2013.

The format of our presentation was simple: explain the reasons why certain animations are easily recognisable by (almost) anyone, give some help in choosing the right animation for the right interaction, and show how to create them with code.

After a brief introduction to the history of on-screen animations in the digital world, we moved to explain how the basic principles of motion can be applied to digital products using the world famous “Disney’s animation principles” as a starting point.

An introduction to HTML5 + CSS3 animations and transitions was then presented, with a lot of working examples showing how to achieve the most famous animations/interactions using the frontend web stack.
